Beach clean-up & litter prevention campaign (part II)

The Keep Hawai`i Beautiful Clean-up at Sandy Beach was a follow-up of the Sandy Beach Earth Day Celebration beach clean-up and cigarette butt litter prevention campaign. Thank you to all the volunteers who cleaned up the beach and collected and counted cigarette butts. There was a 50% reduction in the amount of butts collected from the Earth Day clean-up. BUTTsOUT "butt holders" were also given out to smokers 18 yrs. and older. Participating groups included the Hawai`i Kai Boy Scouts and Hawai`i TransPacific College.

Thank you to Nani O` Wai`anae for supplying Keep America Beautiful educational handouts, banners and beach clean-up supplies. Thank you to our sponsors, Kale's Natural Foods, Ben & Jerry's, City Mill, BUTTsOUT, and GreenSak.
