B.E.A.C.H. volunteers removed marine debris from the Kahuku shoreline in January, 2012 removing microplastics along with larger debris.

Protecting sea turtles and marine life from harmful plastics: Plastic bags to be banned on the island of Hawai`i in 2013

Hawai`i County Mayor Kenoi signed Bill 17 banning plastic shopping bags into law on Tuesday 17th January, 2012. The law will take effect in 2013. B.E.A.C.H. supported the bill by sending in testimon

Kahuku Beach Marine Debris Removal - February - March, 2012
Service learning students from Kapiolani Community College and Windward Community College joined B.E.A.C.H. in removing marine debris from the Kahuku shoreline over 4 days in February/March 2012. Thank you to Discover Hawai`i Tours for supporting these removal efforts by providing transportation for volunteers.



Lana`i Marine Debris Removal, May & June 2012
B.E.A.C.H. co-founders, Suzanne Frazer and Dean Otsuki removed over 1000 pounds of marine debris from shorelines on the island of Lana`i. Thank you to the Hawaiian Monk Seal Response Team O`ahu and to Young Brothers for transporting the container of marine debris to Honolulu where it was disposed of at H-Power (marine debris to energy).

Recycle Your Change - Fundraiser for B.E.A.C.H.
Whole Foods Market Kailua chose B.E.A.C.H. to be the first recipient of their "Recycle Your Change" program. Customers were invited to make donations at the registers from May 1st to June 30th, 2012. Mahalo to Whole Foods Market Kailua for their support of B.E.A.C.H.!

World Ocean Day at Whole Foods Market
B.E.A.C.H. celebrated World Ocean Day with Whole Foods Market Kailua on 8th June, 2012. Customers contributed to a collaborative mural celebrating the ocean, signed pledges to help reduce the plastic load, B.E.A.C.H. had an information table and marine life craft activities for children and Whole Foods Market Kailua staff hand painted marine life on cedar planks for customers raising funds for B.E.A.C.H. Thank you to the staff of Whole Foods Market Kailua!




Marine Debris Solutions Student Art Project display at the Hawai`i State Library from Friday 9th November to Saturday 8th December, 2012. The Marine Debris Solutions Student Art Project is a project of the Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawai`i to increase awareness in the community of solutions to reduce and prevent marine debris and to inspire change and action.
